Biography
Renwick Jackson received a B.A. from Westminster College (Pa), a B.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary and a Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.   He also studied at Mansfield College at Oxford. A minister, he served communities in New Jersey, New York and Witney, England. He taught at New Brunswick Theological Seminary and was associate director of programs at the National Conference of Christians and Jews. He was dean of students and professor of history at Queensborough Community College and York College of the City University of New York, and initiated the first program of religious studies in the City University of New York at Hunter College.
He was the founding president of St. Mary’s College of Maryland as a four-year college and co-director of The Academic Year in New York City. He conceived of the Governor’s Cup Yacht Race from the new capital, Annapolis, to the first capital, St. Mary’s City, which became the largest yacht race on the Chesapeake Bay. He coordinated an expedition to Kithasyu village in Kenya to support the construction of a pipeline that conveys uncontaminated spring water to 12,000 persons.
Appointments include the Governor’s Commission on Nuclear Power in Maryland, Chairman of the Foundation of the Maryland Center for Public Broadcasting, and president of the Ecumenical Foundation for Higher Education in Metropolitan New York. As a stringer for Newsweek, he reported on the Kirchentag in Berlin and the World Council of Churches Assembly in New Delhi, India. He published The Montauk Spirit, a bi-weekly newspaper, and hosted a weekly radio Program on WALK from 1991 to 1995.
He received an honorary doctorate from Westminster College, a Half-Blue Award from Oxford University, and was a Benjamin Franklin Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. Currently, he is the director of the Community of the Creator Spirit and a writer. He body surfs on Fire Island, and lives in Brookhaven Hamlet encompassed by the Wildlife Refuge and in Chelsea in New York City.
